Roster Movements Shake The Nest

Posted October 11, 2009

The Nighthawks front office has made it clear that no one is exempt from being moved. After the dismal 0-4 start the team is in disarray, even though in all fairness, the team wasn't expected to compete this season anyway. The first move of the week took place with division rival and Week 5 opponent San Diego. The Nighthawks sent a Compensatory 3rd Round Pick for rookie backup quarterback Devaul James.

North Dakota Gets:

QB - Devaul James

North Dakota Gives Up:

North Dakota 3rd Round Compensatory Draft Selection

The trade was made because the staff felt that with Danny May's increasing age that they needed a solid backup and one was found in Devaul James. The front office loves his potential, and are eager to see him reach it.

However the trading didn't stop there. Another division rival, Tuscon, came through with an offer for Jetta Shanklin that would have made Donald Trump blush. Jetta Shanklin was a huge pickup for North Dakota and looked to be a serious superstar in the making but the offer that was made was simply to sweet to pass up. A series of draft picks and a few O-lineman made for a blockbuster deal.

North Dakota Gets:

DS - Abraham Adama
OL/DL - Randell Tyus
OL/DL - Neil Basten
North Dakota's First Round Selection (back from a previous trade)
Tuscon's 5th and 2nd Round Draft Selections
Buffalo's 3rd Round Draft Selection
Long Island's 2nd, 3rd, and 5th Round Draft Selections
Miami's 4th and 5th Round Selections
Spokane's 5th Round Selection

North Dakota Gives Up:

RB/DB Jetta Shanklin

The deal was just too good to pass up. There was too much to like about the deal and upcoming draft prospects. Shanklin will be a stud in this league someday, but so could all those draft picks.
